His life was shaped by service and the water.
Larry Francis Ashe began painting during quiet hours at the firehouse. What started as a pastime grew into an award-winning body of work celebrating local scenes, river landscapes, wildlife, and the iconic workboats of Mathews and the surrounding Chesapeake Bay.
After 32 years in the fire service, Larry continued serving his community through the Mathews Art League as Vice President, Gallery Manager, and a generous volunteer. His paintings preserve not only places and vessels, but the character of a working-water community he deeply loved.
